Happy November, friends!! I can’t believe we are nearing the end of another year…I haven’t quite figured out where the time goes!
I took the past couple weeks off to spend time with my family after the passing of my grandpa. It was a difficult time to say goodbye to someone who has been such a big part of my life for 28 years, but it was also a blessing to reflect on the wonderful life he had- all 94 years of it!
Not only were we celebrating the life of such a wonderful man, but we also celebrated our little Becca’s first birthday! I’m still in disbelief that we have a one-year-old already, but we had such a great time with our family and friends. I definitely made many memories this past week that I will cherish forever!
Packing a Toddler Diaper Bag for Travel

Since we live about 10 hours from our family, we spend a lot of time traveling back and forth- both on the road and in the air. One thing I have learned from flying alone with a toddler is that you most definitely want to travel light, while still bringing every possible thing you can think of to entertain the little one. Wait, that sounds impossible, right? Well, it definitely takes some planning and having the right tools!
The first time I traveled, I carried a regular diaper bag as my personal item on the flight. By “regular diaper bag,” I’m talking about the kind that you carry on one shoulder. When I bought that diaper bag before I had Becca, I was not thinking about the ease of carrying it through the airport. Not that the bag alone is difficult to carry, but when you add in a small suitcase, a car seat, a stroller…oh and a baby! Well, now you get the picture.
So, before you can even begin to think about what to pack inside the bag, you need to have a good bag that is well suited for travel. I LOVE this bag from Cheeky Tummy!!
The bag is perfect for either mommy or daddy to carry, as it doesn’t look like a designer purse or a manly backpack. It’s just right for both parents! The bag also comes with a smaller toiletry bag and a diaper changing pad, because who wants to lay their baby on those airport changing tables without some protection?!
Why is this Cheeky Tummy bag any different than, say, a regular backpack? I used a regular old backpack that I found from home on the last flight I took. While it’s perfectly functional, there are several large compartments in backpacks. They are meant to carry laptops, large textbooks, and other “big people” things. This diaper bag backpack is different because it contains MANY smaller compartments to hold those tiny baby items that can easily disappear in larger bags. And, let me tell you from experience, I could have saved myself so much frustration if I had thought of that fact before flying with a regular bag last time. Nothing is more frustrating than frantically digging through everything you have packed to find one small little toy to keep your baby from screaming on the plane! It will save you so much stress if you know exactly where to find what you need and can easily locate it.
Here’s my list of must-haves in the diaper bag when traveling:
Toys (preferably ones that don’t make too much noise)
Pain reliever for mom and dad
Change of clothes for your child
Diaper changing pad
Must-haves in the toiletry bag:
Infant pain reliever
One helpful piece of advice: Keep all “liquids” that you would have to take out of the bag at the airport in the small toiletry bag. That way, when you go through security, you only have to remember to remove the toiletry bag instead of digging through the entire diaper bag to find all the liquids. But, don’t forget the wipes, too!
