I have been so eager to finally sit down and write this post! I’ve been keeping a pretty big secret for the past few months: Our second BABY is coming August 1st!
We are so excited to welcome the newest addition, and can’t wait to see how awesome of a big sis our sweet girl will be!
It’s my goal to share some pregnancy updates with you all, but since I am already 16 weeks into this one, I will give you a quick update of what’s happened thus far!
My husband and I have kind of adopted the philosophy that whatever is meant to be will be. This line of thinking is due mostly to the fact that we tried so hard to plan our first couple of pregnancies, and they both sadly ended in miscarriage. So, when I am asked about whether or not this was a planned pregnancy, I often think: Well not by us, but God definitely had a plan!
I was slightly apprehensive at first, knowing that I will have two babies under the age of two for a couple months. But, in the end, we are far more excited than anxious to be parents again.
How did we find out? I took a test on the day of my daughter’s baptism in November. I tested early, and the line was faint, but it was definitely a line!
Symptoms so far? The first trimester saw the typical exhaustion and nausea that most pregnancies do. Although, it was different this time around. With Becca, I couldn’t (and didn’t want to) eat anything. This time, I only felt somewhat better if I kept food in my stomach. I think it helped keep the nausea at bay, even though I still had it all day everyday. Exhaustion was much more of an issue this time, probably because of the toddler who had just learned to walk in our house!
Cravings? Chocolate!! Ice cream sundaes, pizza lunchables (weird?), and fruit. So much different than the last time when I only craved steaks and jalepeno poppers on the grill!
Dr. Appointments? We’ve had two so far. One at 8 weeks for the ultrasound and one at 12 weeks. Both times the baby’s heartbeat was in the 160’s. We got to peek in on the baby with a handheld ultrasound machine in our doctor’s office at 12 weeks. There was lots of squirming around going on in there! Hopefully we’ll get another peek in at this week’s appointment!
Movement? I have felt some pokes a couple of times recently, but nothing consistent yet. I believe I was around 22 weeks before I was consistently feeling Becca move, but I’m looking forward to feeling those flips and kicks again!
What I miss the most: Going for walks! I walked all the time during my last pregnancy, but haven’t been able to get out much because of the winter weather this time. I’m excited for Spring to get here so we can get outside a lot more! And, maybe some activity would help me keep the weight gain down 😉
What we’re doing to get ready: We haven’t done much in terms of preparation yet. We did pull out all the newborn clothing we had put in storage and took out the gender neutral pieces. We won’t be finding out the gender again this time, so we want to have a few things on hand when the baby arrives!
How we’re preparing B: There’s not much you can say or do to prepare a one year old for a new baby sibling. We try to point to my tummy and say “baby,” but she just smiles, turns to her picture on the wall, and points. So, she’s still the baby… for now! 🙂
